FAQ

Frequently asked questions?

How does laser tattoo removal work?
Tattoos are made using a motorised needle that pricks holes in a layer of your skin, depositing ink into those holes. Your body surrounds the ink with collagen making the tattoo permanent.
The Q-switched laser works by producing high-powered energy beam which passes through the skin into the ink. The nanosecond pulses break up the ink into tiny particles which are then absorbed naturally by your bodies immune system. Different colours respond to different laser wavelengths, which is why it is important to use a tri-colour laser machine for optimum results.
With every treatment the laser breaks up each layer of ink allowing your body to repeat the removal process. For this reason, we always recommend between 4-6 weeks between treatments to allow your body to complete the process, and as to not "over treat" the area.

Does it hurt?
The pain of removal will be no more than having the tattoo, and has been described as being "flicked with an elastic band". Unlike many other clinics, in order to aid client comfort we have invested in a cooling system which reduces discomfort by up to 50%, by providing a cold flow of air onto the treatment area, as a form of mild anaesthetic. This system also prevents  thermal damage.

Are there any side effects?
Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or a small blister may form. Changes to skin texture and scarring are possible, though very uncommon and is more likely to occur if any skin grazes are not allowed to heal naturally. There may be an initial loss of the ability to tan on the treatment area, which usually improves in time.
The most common side effects are "frosting" which is an initial reaction to the laser, where the skin surface goes temporarily white. This usually disappears within a couple of minutes, however can last up to 48 hours. Other side affects includes a "stinging nettle" like rash, slight raising of the skin on the treatment area and least commonly blood spotting on the treatment area. All of these are completely normal, and a normal reaction.

How will it heal?
After the first session, skin may feel warmer to the touch and slightly swollen . We will provide full aftercare instructions and are always on hand to answer any questions.
We provide all of our clients with their own Lynton "Light and Soothe Serum" to take home and apply as necessary.
